New coaches at DLTC
Congratulations to Calum, John, Lewis and Chele who have all qualified as PTR coaches after attending a training course in August 2020. It's great to have so many additional young coaches and such positive role models - another encouraging example of how the club is expanding and encouraging development, despite the covid disruption!
Club Championship Winners 2019
There were some tough matches on Finals Night in the Ards Dome. In singles competitions Adam and Kerry were winners while the Over 45s had Robin and Orla taking the trophies. The Ladies Doubles final was a fantastic contest on centre court with so many brilliant rallies, finally being won in a championship tiebreak by Kerry and Chele. Mens Doubles saw Kyle and Calum triumph over Adam and Ray in another close final.
Pauline goes 'above and behond'
Congratulations to Pauline Little who was awarded the Captains Trophy for her outstanding contribution to all aspects of life at DLTC, not only as a team player in singles and doubles, but also for her enthusiasm and participation in all activities at the club. It was presented here by the 2019 Captain, Kerry Savage.
Charity Tournament supports Action Mental Health
A very successful Charity Tournament was run in August in memory of Lynda Rees. It was great to see Lynda's sister Stephanie paired with Matthew in the final against Orla and Adam. It was a close set with the eventual winners being Orla and Adam. £560 was raised by the afternoon fundraiser.
Open Tournament Finalists
September 21st saw the return of the Club's Open Tournament in brilliant sunshine. There were some very competeive matches culminating in a one-set final when the visitors from Sloughy Club came out solid winners against the home pair of Natalie and Ray
Summer Success at Co. Antrim Championships
DLTC players excelled at the Championships in Ballycastle last weekend with Aaron Stubbs winning no less than 3 titles in the finals on Sunday. He took the Mens' Singles, Mens Doubles and Mixed Doubles to make it a hat-trick in trophies.
The Cotters were also successful with Suzi playing up in U16 and winning that class while Noah and partner won the Boys U14 Doubles.
Peter Galt played some great tennis to reach the finals of the U18s as did Ellen McCarthy who was also runner up in the over 35s Ladies Doubles.

Members in Wimbledon Whites enjoy Club Tournament
The club held a very successful Wimbledon-style afternoon on 6th July.
Everyone enjoyed some competitive tennis in-between refreshments of Pimms and strawberries & cream.
The final set was valiantly defended by Robin and Erika but won by the more experienced pairing of Denise and Johnny. Adam was delighted to win free membership for next year with his Wimbledon dress code!
Senior Title - Belfast Boat Club
Congratulations to Lucy on winning the Ulster Ladies Senior title for the 4th time. Aaron and Annie McCullough also had a great win in the Mixed Doubles at the Boat Club. Fantastic results for our local club.
U10 Orange Ball Tournament comes to Donaghadee
There was some excellent competitive matchplay from all the juniors.
Joel was undefeated and won gold as Best Boy, while Bardot achieved gold for Best Girl.
Ethan finished 2nd in his first ever event, while Jonah took bronze. Well done to all the young players. Thanks also to Lewis and Louis for helping Trevor run the tournament.
Club Open Day 2019
The club held a very successful Open Day in April when lots of new families and individuals enjoyed a fun afternoon. We were joined by Lauren Symthe from UBTI and local councillor Mark Brooks
Mary Peters Charity Tournament
On Thursday 7th of March we hosted our own Mary Peters Trust Charity Tournament. It was a great evening of mixed doubles and we managed to raise £160 for the charity. Hazel and Conor won the DLTC tournament and will now go forward to the Ulster Finals at the Boat Club this Saturday.
Annual Dinner & Prizegiving 2019
The club recently held our Annual Dinner and Prizegiving. This year we had a great evening of food, music and dancing at Donaghadee Golf Club. It was fantastic to see so many faces, many of them new members, some young and others not so young... Winners of the club championships were presented with their trophies.
DLTC Junior Development Fund
DLTC has always been a club that supports the development of our junior members. This year we were delighted to award a bursary to Suzi and Noah Cotter and Euan Tyler who all put a lot of work into their tennis over the last 12 months. They could be seen competing for both our junior and senior teams and also take part in a range of ulster squads and tournaments.
Junior Festive Tennis 2018
On the 20th of December we held our final junior coaching evening of 2018. It was great to see so many smiley young faces with their santa hats and elf outfits. We had a fantastic evening of fun and games which included pass the parcel and prizes for those dressed in the most festive attire. We look forward to a great 2019.
DLTC at Ulster Senior Indoors
Well done to everyone from the club who competed in the Ulster Senior Indoors at David Lloyds last week. It was great to see DLTC players competing in so many different events across the week. Well done to Orla and Ann who made it to the semi-final of C Ladies doubles in their first ever tournament. Kerry and Conor were also successful in lifting the Mixed B trophy. Junior Winter Matchplays
Well done to a number of our juniors who recently took part in The Winter Matchplays. Both Susie Cotter and Euan Tyler did extremely well finishing in the top 8 in Ulster.
Noah Cotter, who has had a super 2018, not only won the Ulster U12 Matchplays, but travelled to Galway and finished 6th in the National Matchplays.
We are excited to see what 2019 holds for the juniors at the club.
DLTC Junior Orange Ball Tournament
Congratulations to Joel Rea who has already eclipsed his fathers greatest successes by taking home gold at the recent orange ball tournament which took place at DLTC on Saturday 10th Nov. Joel had some excellent matches coming first, only one point ahead of Sarah Monan from Cloughy and Daniel Nicholson of Bangor Tennis Club.
Annual Junior Padel Tennis Tournament
On Friday the 9th Oct the club organised a junior Padel Tennis competition at Eddie Irvine Sports in Bangor. We had 18 juniors from Cloughy, St Pats and Donaghadee who all showed some excellent skills and had a lot of fun. Livvie from Cloughy and Adam from Donaghadee took home the trophy. Afterwards we all went out for dinner at Toms in Bangor. Everyone had a great evening.
Breast Cancer UK Fundraiser
The club recently joined TURNINGDONAGHADEEPINK campaign to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer UK. On Thursday 18th Oct both juniors and seniors sported some of their finest pink attire. There was a great energy with some fantastic outfits. We are delighted to have raised over £250 for Breast Cancer UK. Captains Day 2018
On Saturday 29th of September, Alison Octave hosted the annual Captains Day. The event was attended by over 30 members who enjoyed a great afternoon of mixed doubles along with some tasty treats. After a round robin fourball event, Kerry Savage and Robin Crowther came up against Orla Edgar and Trevor Octave. After an intense battle Kerry and Robin emerged victors, lifting the captains day 2018 trophy aloft.
Lynda Rees Memorial Tournament
Last year we were deeply saddened by the loss of Lynda Rees. For many years Lynda was an extremely active member of the club committee. On Saturday the 16th of August we held a memorial tournament for Lynda which proved to be a brilliant day. Over 40 people attended, both current and past members who enjoyed some excellent tennis and great food. We are also delighted to announce that we raised over £800 for two charities chosen by Lyndas family.
Aaron Stubbs Competes at Interprovincials
Aaron Stubbs began playing tennis at the club at the age of 9. Over the last 13 years he has been one of the most successful juniors in Ireland. In July Aaron competed for Ulster Senior Team in the Interprovincials for the 5th successive year where he competed in two very tight doubles matches.
Junior Success for Peter Gault
Pater Galt who has been involved with the club since a young age had a very successful summer. He reached the final of the Ulster Junior Open where he defeated the number 1 and 2 seeds along the way. Peter was also successful in competing for Ulster U18s in the Interprovincial Championships. We wish Peter the very best as he now moves into senior tennis having played his last tournaments as a junior.
